Daleville: Gene Raymond Bronnenberg, 89, passed away December 8, 2017 after a short illness.Gene was born in 1928 in Chesterfield, Indiana and attended Anderson High School. After graduating from high school he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.He married Eva Mills, his wife of sixty-three years until her death in 2014. They moved to Daleville in 1956 and lived the remainder of their lives there.Gene owned a barber shop in Daleville from 1954-1970. His shop was a gathering place for the community and he was affectionately known as "Doc." Gene had a strong sense of community and supported Little League, served on the Daleville School Board, and made home and hospital visits to cut the hair of his customers. He was also a United Auto Worker with General Motors, retiring in 1990."Papaw Gene," as he was known to many, was a caring son, a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his kindness and his never-ending cheerfulness.Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Eva and his brother Phillip, who died in 2003. He is survived by his daughter Glenda (Jim) Bronnenberg Probst of Hamlin, WV and son Brad (Amy) Bronnenberg of Daleville, Indiana; six grandchildren (Crystal Myers of Tennessee, Rachel Kinder and Emma Austin of West Virginia, Justin Bronnenberg of Ohio, Joshua Bronnenberg of Tennessee, and Randi Alexander of Ohio); and 11 great-grandchildren (Ireland, Elliot, Eva, Benjamin, Mara, Samantha, Gabby, Dalton, Jacob, Gabriel and Neave).He was a life-long fan of the Daleville Broncos, Indiana University basketball, and the Indianapolis Colts.Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, Daleville. Services will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 2015 Jackson Street, Anderson, Indiana.
