Yorktown...Gary Lane Beaty, 56, resident of the Yorktown area, passed away at his home Monday morning after an extended illness.He was born in Pickett County, Tennessee, April 15, 1947, the son of Walter E. and T. Maxine Beaty.He worked in construction with Pitcock Construction Company in Chesterfield and was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam with the 2nd airborne. He held the rank of sergeant and had received the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.He was a member of the American Legion Post of Daleville.Besides his parents, he is survived by 1 daughter: Shawna Purvis of LaFontaine, Indiana, 1 brother: Bill (Sandy) Beaty of Chesterfield, VA, 2 sisters: Barbara Beaty of Chesterfield and Virginia (Bill) Rievley of Daleville, 3 grandchildren, 2 nieces: Shelley (Todd) Anderson, of Mechanicsville, VA, and Robin (Dallas) Gabriel of Daleville, 2 nephews: Billy (Mary Ann) Beaty of Midlothian, VA and Brian (Amy) Rievley of Alexandria, IN.He was preceded in death by Paternal Grandparents: Elmer and Osha Beaty and Maternal Grandparents: Will Ed and Mary Zelma Beaty.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut Street, Daleville with Rev. Gary McManus officiating.Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie.Friends may call at the Daleville Chapel on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.Online Guestbook is available at: www.ballardandsons.com
