Garnett O. Vaughn (February 19, 1939 - July 4, 2015) Garnett Vaughn was born February 19, 1939 in Brush Creek, Ky. He was the son of the late Rufus and Vera Vaughn, and grew up in Anderson. He was a graduate from Madison Heights in 1957. He resided in Mechanicsburg for the last 33 years.His wife Donna, to whom he had had been married for the last 33 years survives him. Together they were raising their granddaughters Zoe Morris and Zayla Zimmer.He retired from Delco Remy, Plant 17 in 1998 after 34 years of service. He then retired from Shenandoah Schools after 10 years.He was an avid bowler and had bowled in the Anderson Bowling Association for more than 40 years. He was the Past Master for of the Mechanicsburg Lodge #392 Masons and belonged to the Scottish Rite and Shriners of Indiana. He was a devoted grandfather and loved caring for grandchildren Zeb and Zane Poore, Hillery and Holly Shepherd, Silas Poore and cared for Henry and Hudson Lantz. It was his belief they kept him young and active. He was always the grandchildren's biggest cheerleaders.He loved building with wood and had completely remodeled the home he shared with Donna. He loved to visit Brown County and the mountains of Gatlinburg, Tn. He was known for his Christmas and Halloween displays, which were his labor of love. He did this for all to see, especially the children. People know where he lived and came from miles away to see his displays.In addition to his loving wife, Donna, he is survived by their children, Teresa (Ed) Harber, of Ft Wayne, their children Rachel (Spencer) Cassaday, Thomas (Cherith) Harber, Joshua (Megan) Harber, and Caleb (Carolyn) Harber. Melanie (Brian) Ashby, of Alexandria, their children David (Sarah) Clark, Karie Lanamon, Shawn Ashby, his son, Gavin; BJ (Caytee) Ashby and Molly Ashby. Kristy Hayden, of Anderson, her children Zach (Sharon) Zimmer, Zara Zimmer, Zeb (Jamie) Poore, and Zane (Mariah) Poore. Montgomery Vaughn of Anderson, his children Natalie and Samuel. Thomas C. Hayden, of Alabama, his children Zach, Jacob, Luke and Noah. Marty (April) Vaughn, of Anderson, their children Spenser and Shelby. Amy (Greg) Sheperd of Middletown, their children Hillery and Holly. Emily (Doug) Hall, of Warren, their children Lily and Wyatt. He and Donna were blessed with 18 great-grandchildren, with one more that will soon be here.He is also survived by brothers, Larry (Nancy) Vaughn of Markleville and their grandson, Adam; Garry Vaughn of Liberty, Ky. and sister, Vickie Vaughn of Liberty, Ky.He was proceeded in death by sister Jean Burton, brother Victor Vaughn, daughter-in-law Kathy Vaughn, brother-in-law Harold W. Brown and granddaughter Autumn Vaughn.Viewing will be Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with Masonic Rites at 8:00 pm, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. 5th St. Middletown.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 8, 2015, at 11:00 am, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Rolland Daniels of Madison Park Church of God, Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
