Anderson....Fred Ghanayem, 72, resident of Anderson and longtime resident of Middletown, passed away unexpectedly at St. Johns Medical Center in Anderson on Saturday evening.He was born in Brynmawr, PA, April 24, 1938, the son of Mousa and Nimeh Saah Saleena.He was a 1967 graduate of Franklin College and sales representative for Roche labs for 31 years retiring in 2001. He earned many top sales awards in his career.He was a long standing member of the Middletown Conservation Club and loved fishing and travelling, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.He played football for a semi-pro team in Philadelphia and moved to Indiana after a spinal cord injury.He moved to Middletown in 1968 and was a faithful and loving family man to his family.He was an elder in the Chesterfield Christian Church for many years and was honored as Elder Emeritus in 2006. He served his church in many areas, and especially enjoyed singing in the choir. His baritone voice resonated deeply in the hearts of all who heard.He was one of the founding fathers of the Middletown/Fall Creek Emergency Unit (EMS) and was president of the volunteer organization for 19 years.He helped establish and organize the Middletown (Shenandoah) Youth Football League.Fred always offered a smile and encouraging word to anyone who was blessed to meet him and never knew a stranger. He was a positive and inspirational force to so many.Though he will be greatly missed by his community and family, he will be welcomed in Heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Samuel and his sister Elizabeth.He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Betsy of Anderson, children: Damon (Suzanne) Ghanayem of Middletown, IN, Darren (Annalisa) Ghanayem of Moorepark, CA and Deidre (Jason) Barnett of Indianapolis, his grandchildren: Savanna Ghanayem, Dalton Ghanayem, and Jade Ghanayem and Parker and Spencer Barnett, 1 sister: Mary Ann Barrett of Runnemede, NJ.Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Chesterfield Chrisitan Church with Pastor Ned Clark officiating.Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery, Middletown.Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-8 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown.Memorials may be made to the Middletown EMS, Box 1, Middletown, IN 47356Online Guestbook at:
