Douglas "Doug" Scott Whistler

March 10, 1957 — January 21, 2023

Douglas “Doug” Scott Whistler, 65 of Anderson passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023. He was born in Union City, IN on March 10, 1957 a son of the late Ralph L. and Wilma A. (Sayers) Whistler.

Doug was a graduate of UCCHS and The Muncie Area Career Center in 1975. He spent his entire working career in the industrial sheet metal business as a sign fabricator, in Muncie and Indianapolis. Early in his working career, Doug saw a great deal of the United States, as he traveled to install many of the signs he had built. He retired from Essential Architectural Signs in Indianapolis, in December of 2022. Doug loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a loyal friend, and like his dad, Doug was willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Doug was an honest person; he expressed his opinions and stated his case and then moved on. You never had to question where he stood on any subject, sometimes to a fault. He sometimes regretted things that he had said, but didn’t know how to ask for forgiveness, until he neared the end of his life. Doug will be greatly missed.

He was a fan of motor racing. He got his start as a kid riding a homebuilt mini-bike up and down the alley and around the yard on Hickory Street. Doug enjoyed NASCAR and Indy Car series; but he really enjoyed spending time at Eldora and Winchester with family and close friends. He also helped with a go-karting racing team. Doug had a knack for being able to identify upcoming young drivers with talent. He was an avid history buff. In his leisure time, when racing cars was not on the television, you could always count on a John Wayne or a western show to be on the television. For over 20 years, his summertime passion was being the “shooter” for Union City and surrounding areas for their firework shows. In his younger years he was known to be quite the bowler and a dart thrower with the accolades to show for it. Doug was also a lifelong member in good standings of the Eagles.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Leslie Ann (Reynolds) Whistler; children, Kimberly Sue (Jeremy) Turner of Indianapolis, IN, Natasha Cook of Winchester, IN, and Matthew Lee (Peggy) Whistler of Yorktown, IN; a brother, Steven (Deborah) Whistler; grandchildren; a great grandson; several nieces and nephews; special family, Rhonda Kridler, Dakota (Christy) Kridler, Samantha (Collin) Kridler, Natalie (Brad) Graves, Amanda (Zach) Lake and Nikki (Brian) Graves.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Krista Michelle Whistler, a brother, Richard Lee Whistler, and a sister, Katherine E Winans.

A Time of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 4:00 pm at the Middletown American Legion. A visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
