Dorothy M. Wright

Dorothy M. Wright, 99, of Middletown, passed away at her residence with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. She was born in Daleville on April 18, 1917 to the late Walter and Mae (Scott) Hodson. Dorothy was a 1935 graduate of Daleville High School and worked in the cafeteria at Shenandoah High School for many years. She was the first woman appointed to the Middletown Park Department. Her appointment began in October, 1978 and she served until June, 1998, thereby serving the community nearly twenty years.Dorothy will be greatly missed by her 3 children, Jerry L. Wright (wife: Faye) Florida, Linda Nightenhelser, Florida, Berneta Hall, Middletown; her sister-in-law, Betty Hodson, Anderson; 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was known as the Grandmother to all the kids on the West end of Middletown.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard Wright, daughter, Phyllis Wright, four brothers, GK Hodson (wife: Helen), Bob Hodson, Kenneth Hodson (wife:Martha), Steven Hodson; three sisters, Lois Strohm (husband: Johnny), Jean Nixon (husband: Allen), Bernadine Hodson.Services to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. 5th St. Middletown, with Pastors Maynard Powell, Michelle Brown, and Marty Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery.
