New Castle...Don O. Bertram, ""Gander"", 84, resident of New Castle, passed away Saturday evening at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle after a brief illness.He was born in Hidalgo, Kentucky, November 18, 1918 and lived for many years near Mechanicsburg, Indiana before moving to New Castle.He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1981 and was a WW 2 Veteran serving in the US Army. He was a member of UAW Local 662, American Legion Post #408 of Chesterfield, the VFW #1282 of New Castle, the Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge #392, and the Rose City Eagles Lodge #933 of New Castle.Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Thelma (New) of New Castle, 1 daughter: Donna (Phil) Stephens of Muncie, 2 sons: Dale ""Tex"" (Pat) Bertram of Daleville and Danny ""Vic"" (Suzy) Bertram of Anderson, 1 brother: Von Bertram of Richmond, 6 grandchildren: Craig Stephens of Fishers, Tanya Hensley of Selma, Deke Bertram of Middletown, Dawn Self of Georgetown, IN, Alicia Schenk of Middletown, and Jeremy Pierce of Anderson, 9 great grandchildren: Mackenzie and Syndey Stephens, Samantha, Sabrina and Noah Hensley, Andrew Spray, Brittnee Bertram, Paige Schenk, and Jacob Pierce as well as several nieces and nephews, and all his special friends at the ""Doghouse"".He was preceded in death by a daughter: Bonnie Pierce, his parents, and 1 brother Clyde Bertram.Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Rev. John Garrett officiating.Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery.Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 at the funeral home with Masonic services at 7:00 PM.""Gander"" would like all his friends to dress casual and warm for the visit.
