Dennis Lee Lewis, 80, of Daleville, peacefully passed away on August 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his wife Shirley and his children.
He was born August 7, 1943, in Anderson, IN, the son of Lysle and Frances (Anderson) Lewis. He graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1961. Dennis met the women of his dreams while attending electronics school in Louisville, Kentucky and they got married on June 27th, 1964. They were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at their home surrounded by family and friends.
Dennis retired from working as a Supervisor for Reliance Machinery in Muncie. He had worked twenty-five plus years as a plant supervisor for Delco Remy Plant 10 and Plant 20, Anderson. Dennis joined the Daleville Salem Township Fire Department during the Blizzard of 78. He was a part of the group that started the ambulance service in Daleville, when they saw the need to have an ambulance in town. Dennis served as a firefighter and at one time was the Fire Chief at Daleville. In his spare time while working he farmed ten acre and forty-acre properties here in Daleville. He also assisted his father, grandfather and brothers in building several family homes over the years.
Dennis enjoyed doing genealogical research with his mother Frances and his Aunt Juanita. Along with genealogical research he had a passion for civil war history. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Todd (Michele) Lewis, Mark (Michelle) Lewis, Kristen (Brad) Real, and Daron (Falisha) Lewis; his siblings, Jeff (Jo) Lewis, Bryce (Marla) Lewis, Rosalyn Lewis, Bryon Lewis, Frank Lewis, and a special cousin Tonya Kemerly; in laws, Mary (Steve) Schmidt, Cathy Hudson, John (significant Terry); grandchildren, Dustin (Molly) Lewis, Caitlyn (Skyler) Bex, Hunter Lewis, Morgan Lewis, Kayla Lewis, Adrien (Devin) DeBruhl, Beau Real, Christian (Kiana) Real, Bailey (Chris) Dosch, Hazel Lewis and Eleanor Lewis; great grandchildren, Braxton, Karleigh, Dawson, Colton, Aubrey, Soephiah, Skyler Jr, Nolan and Eli; several nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded by his parents; in-laws, John & Louise Thompson; grandson, Kole; great grandsons, Zachary & Waylon.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Daleville. Burial to follow in Anderson Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday August 6, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Daleville. Memorial contributions can be made out to The Salem Township EMS and Fire Department or The American Cancer Society.
