David Eugene Whitteberry

July 28, 1935 — May 18, 2022

Grand Rapids- David Eugene Whitteberry, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on May 18th, 2022. He was born in Frankfort, IN, the son of Lawrence and Faye (Fetterhoff) Whitteberry and grew up on the farm with his sister, Irene (deceased), and 3 brothers, Paul (deceased), John, and James.

After graduating Suma Cum Laude from Olivet Nazarene College, he and his wife, Betty (Niccum) (deceased), dedicated their lives to serving as a Nazarene pastor in Dunkirk, Huntington, Middletown, Geneva, North Manchester, Van Buren, and Angola. He directed youth camps at Shiloh Park for four years and was a counselor for forty camps. On fifteen different occasions, he traveled to Mexico on work mission trips and also helped build five houses with Habitat for Humanity. He was known for his love for God and others, his servant's heart, and spending countless hours visiting the sick or shut ins in his community. His corny jokes, ready smile, and tales of growing up on the farm will be remembered fondly, especially by his grandchildren. While his loss is deeply felt, he is now perfectly healed in Heaven because of salvation through Jesus Christ.

He is survived by sons; Steve (Diane) Whitteberry, and Bruce (Lynette) Whitteberry; five grandchildren; a step grandchild; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Middletown Church of the Nazarene, 698 N. Fifth St., Middletown, 47356 with Dr. Philip Rogers officiating. Burial to follow at Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Middletown Church of the Nazarene.  Visitation will resume Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Middletown Church of the Nazarene. Envelopes will be available at the church.
