Cordell Carnes, 88, of Middletown passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown. He was born on August 30, 1933 in Jamestown, KY a son of the late Daniel and Sally (Thurston) Carnes.
Cordell was a 1951 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and managed the Standard Food Market prior to joining the US Army. After returning from the Army, he worked at General Motors until his retirement. He was a member of the 6th St. Christian Church and active member of the choir. Cordell enjoyed going to NASCAR races and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with his wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Cordell is survived by his children, Shawn (Kreston) Carnes-Keller, Brian Carnes; grandchildren, Blake Carnes, Jason (Tasha) Carnes, Devin Carnes and Nicole Toombes; great grandchildren, Noah Hinkley, Lexie Carnes, Jason Carnes Jr, and Lena Carnes; beloved daughter-in-law, Susan Carnes; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Karen Liebhardt; longtime friend, Buster Johnson; caretakers, Fran and Ed Tedrow; two step sons and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Cordell was preceded in death by his wife, Janis Liebhardt-Atkinson Carnes; daughter, Andrea Susan Carnes; brothers, Kenneth Carnes, William Curtis Carnes and Homer Carnes; sisters, Aldine Lois Davis, Norma Jean Sanders and Evelyn Carnes.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown and to the Kindred Hospice for all the loving care provided to Cordell.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery. You may express condolences or share a memory of Cordell at
