On June 19, 1932 a boy was born up in the Hollar of Little Runnix in Burkesville Kentucky. His parents were Allen
and Sally Carter. His name is Clide Carter. His siblings were Keith, Rollen, Robert, Nina, Geneva, Bill, and Betty.
Clide graduated from Middletown high school in 1950 where he played baseball and basketball. He married his
high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Thornburg. They had three children, Mary Etta, Debbie, and Bob. He was active in Little
League, Babe Ruth, Intramural basketball as well as Shenandoah Band Boosters. He and Joe Lockhart drove the uniform/
instrument truck for the band. He was a driver for the Middletown EMT ambulance service for 10 years. He was a 50 year
member of the Middletown Masonic Lodge #271 and a 50 year member of Royal arch masons, He belonged to the
Middletown order of Eastern Star #110 for more than 25 years. He was a Veteran of of both the United States Navy and
Army.
He was a family man, loved his children and his special dog, Cheyanne. In addition his joy was his three
granddaughters, Mary Lynn, Alicia (deceased), and Marilee. His greatest blessing was his great grandchildren who adored
him as much as he did them - Kiley, Andrew, Nate, Nicky, Brylee, Noah, Lilly, and Faith (deceased).
Clide and Marylou would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on May 30th 2021. He was employed by
Delco Remy for 47 years. After retirement, they traveled around the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. They
regretted missing the one state of Idaho in their travels. They loved to go to the Grand Ole Opry and saw many country
stars perform. His children will never forget being awaken at 3 am every Christmas morning to open presents than after
unwrapping he would go right back to bed.
He will be missed by his wife, Mary Lou, Children Mary Etta (David) Keller, Debra Powell (Lance Kissic), Robert
(Dorthy) Carter. Grandchildren Mary Lynn (Robert) Dickey, Tom Foster (Alicia Deceased), Marilee (Kevin) McDonald. Great
Grandchildren Kiley Dickey (Levi Shetterley), Andrew and Brylee Foster, Nate, Nicky, Noah, and Lilly McDonald. Several
Nieces and Nephews survive as well.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery, Middletown.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home with masonic services at 8:00 PM.
Covid restriction will be in place within the facility with masking, social distancing and hand sanitation required.
