Charlene Shirkey, 94, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in Pendleton at Rawlings House. She was born on February 20, 1928 in Lewisville to the late Warren and Margaret (Miles) Murray.
Charlene was a 1946 graduate of New Castle High School. She married Joseph Highmiller in 1947. Charlene loved family gatherings, baking cookies and clipping newspaper articles for her relatives. Her first job was a telephone operator; she was a homemaker for 20 years, then became a factory worker at RCA, retiring after 20 years of service. Charlene cared for the elderly as an in-home aid until she retired at the age of 70.
She is survived by her children, Mary Catherine Weaver, Donald Warren (Laura) Highmiller, Michael Lee (Debra) Highmiller, Jennifer Ann Cutsinger and Deborah Elaine (Larry) Jones; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by her son, Joesph Anderson Highmiller in 2005.
A celebration of life for Charlene will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard and Sons Funeral Home Middletown Chaple. Memorial contribution can be made in Charlene's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
