Betty Lou Martz, 94, of Chesterfield passed away on Friday January 31, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 8, 1930, in Middletown to the late Merrill and Maudie (Stinson) Emswiller.

She attended Middletown High School, and on May 6, 1949, Betty married the love of her life, Jack Martz. Betty worked for Anderson Community Schools in the cafeteria for 25 years before retiring. She enjoyed playing cards, attending hockey, and baseball games as well as going to the casino. Betty loved traveling and going fishing down in Kentucky. She was known for her amazing coconut cream pies.

Betty is survived by her children, Jackie Johnson, Jill Martz and Jerry Martz; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jeff) Reid and Brian (Jeannine) Johnson; great grandchildren, Natalie Johnson, and Jack Reid; siblings, Barbara Riggs, Shirley Riggs, and Connie (Mike) Wallace; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Martz; grandson, Steven Johnson; siblings, Ronald Emswiller and Jackie Emswiller.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday February 4, 2025, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday February 3, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
