Aiden Alexander Ayres, age 15, died on Sunday, January 27, 2019.
Aiden was born on July 15, 2003, at St. John's Hospital in Anderson IN, to parents Douglas Ayres and Amanda Cooper. He grew up in Middletown IN. He was baptized at the age of seven at Christ Fellowship Church in Knightstown IN and was a sophomore at Shenandoah High School.
Aiden and his younger brother, Dylan, enjoyed spending nights at their grandparents' house when they were little, watching movies together. The boys would rough-and-tumble play, loved each other, and always stood up for one another. Aiden later found even more buddies in his stepbrothers and stepsister, Braysen, Brady, Garrett, and Faith.
Aiden played soccer in New Castle as a boy and later baseball at Shenandoah; a catcher known to hit home runs when playing ball at Sulphur Springs, proud of how he played. He also liked to play video games and loved playing basketball, especially with his dad; the two enjoyed going to sports games together. Together, they rooted for the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, as well as the Tennessee Volunteers.
He enjoyed rap music and was good at trying to come up with his own songs, expressing himself in this way, and found solace in music. He collected athletic shoes; at one time, he had over twenty pairs. The Shenandoah Middle School fieldtrip to Washington DC made an impression on him, as he loved going on trips and experiencing new places. He also visited the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and the Great Smoky Mountains.
Aiden loved babies, starting with his younger brother, Dylan, who arrived shortly after him; when he was older, he enjoyed when his mom babysat for a new grandbaby. He had a tender heart and would check in on people he cared about. He would hug family members multiple times and say he loved them, especially before departures. He had many friends, across many grades - too many to list them all, but Dylan noted that he always wanted to surround himself with friends and family. True to his name, meaning "fiery," like the Celtic sun god, Aiden was passionate for those he loved and showed it.
Where there is judgment of anyone or ourselves, there will always be pain. So when we feel helpless at Aiden's passing, and when we miss him in the coming days, weeks, and years, please remember that we can help him, still, no matter how much time passes: Aiden's parents ask us all to hold on tightly to the good things we each shared with Aiden, not sad or troubled memories, and send love from your heart to his soul that he may find his way. Aiden would like that.

Survivors include his parents, Douglas (Shiona) Ayres and Amanda (Tim) Cooper; his brother, Dylan Ayres; his stepbrothers, Braysen Cooper, Brady Cooper, Garrett Cooper; his stepsister, Faith Cooper; his grandparents, Jodean Ayres, Burl Ayres, Bill and Vicki Christensen, Jane and Mike Coston, Dean and Linda Whitesel; Amanda's sibling, Jason Whitesel; Doug's siblings, Keith (Holly) Ayres (cousins Haeven and Korbin), Derek (Kari) Ayres (cousins Carson and Kylee), Kyle Ayres (cousins Braydon and Chloe); Shiona's sibling, Evan (Lacey) Christensen (cousins Ayden and Renee); and his Middletown cousins, Madeline Lewis, Kaitlyn Lewis, Tanner McNeil, Ryan McNeil, and Avery McNeil.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the Middletown Church of the Nazarene, 698 North 5th St, Middletown. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call on Thursday, January 31 from 4-8 p.m. at the church.
